Modern Art & Design

Bukowskis’ live auction Modern Art & Design presents a carefully curated selection of modern art and design by Swedish and international artists and designers. The auction spans from the breakthrough of the early twentieth century to the height of modernism in the mid-century period, offering a breadth of expressions, materials and artistic perspectives.

The Art Department

The Art Department presents works by some of the most significant Swedish and international artists of the 20th century, including Sigrid Hjertén, Isaac Grünewald, Nils Dardel, Olle Baertling, Carl Kylberg, Evert Lundquist, Åke Göransson, Erik Olson, Lynn Chadwick, Adrian Heath, Vu Cao Dam and Henry Moore. Among the highlights are "Composition à l'oiseau, esquisse" by Fernand Léger, "Påskafton på turisthotellet" by Bror Hjorth, "Cirkus" by Einar Jolin, as well as a monumental painting by Gösta Adrian-Nilsson. The auction also includes several private collections, among them international works from the collection of the diplomat Harald Edelstam.

The Print Department

The Print Department offers high-quality works such as "Põrgu" (Hell) by Eduard Wiiralt, "Buste de Femme au corsage blanc" by Pablo Picasso, as well as "With Hat", from: "Ingrid Bergman" and "Tomato-Beef Noodle O's", (from: "Campbell's Soup II") by Andy Warhol.

The Design Department

The Design Department presents furniture, textiles, glass, ceramics, silver, jewellery and lighting by some of the most prominent Scandinavian designers of the 20th century. Highlights include a unique cabinet of distinction from 1952 by Erik Chambert, as well as an important private collection of furniture and decorative arts from the 1920s to the 1940s. Here you will find Carl Hörvik’s desk for Les Arts Décoratifs Suédois from 1928, a unique wall screen by Einar Luterkort, and G.A. Berg’s highly sought-after armchair, model "Estelle".

Also of note are two magnificent suites of furniture designed by Carl Malmsten, with provenance from Torsten Kreuger and Villa Kvikkjokk on Djurgården in Stockholm. These pieces, produced between 1927 and 1928, have never previously appeared on the market.

The auction features extensive sections of sought-after furniture and objects from Firma Svenskt Tenn and Nordiska Kompaniet, as well as a substantial selection of lighting fixtures, including rare examples by Harald Notini, Carl-Axel Acking and Hans Bergström. Highlights within the large Danish design section include Ib Kofod-Larsen’s sofa and armchair, model "Elizabeth", for Christensen & Larsen.

The Ceramics Department presents a large private collection of Farsta stoneware by Wilhelm Kåge, as well as Art Nouveau ceramics by Hilma Persson-Hjelm, recently exhibited at Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde. Among the glass is a major private collection of cast sculptures by Edvin Öhrström, along with a rich selection of larger sand-cast art glass by Bertil Vallien.

The Carpets and Textile Department

The Carpets and Textiles Department highlights a number of unique pieces, with a particular focus on Swedish textile craftsmanship of the highest quality. Among the highlights are a woven tapestry by Carl Malmsten from 1920 and two unique carpets by Margareta Sundbom Eichenholz. Also presented are exceptional carpets created by the distinguished textile artists Märta Måås-Fjetterström and Barbro Nilsson, together with works by several artists active within AB MMF.

The Silver Department

The Silver Department offers a wide selection of objects created by some of the leading designers of the 20th century. Highlights include Georg Jensen’s beautiful candlesticks, model ‘Grape’, as well as an 18-carat gold box by Olle Ohlsson. You will also find works by renowned designers such as Wiwen Nilsson, Sigurd Persson, Mats Eskils and W.A. Bolin, among others.

The Jewellery Department

The Jewellery Department presents pieces by Swedish and international designers including Wiwen Nilsson, Björn Weckström, Theresia Hvorslev and Rosa Taikon, alongside a fine collection of jewellery by Sven-Erik Högberg. Discover a carefully curated selection of necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, brooches and bridal crowns.

You can bid in advance by placing an absentee bid online or live online in real-time during the auction. Choose an option that fits you. Read more about the options below.

Register with one click

Please note that if you are an online customer you need to register for live auctions to be able to bid at the auction. Simply click here to register or contact validation@bukowskis.com. Absentee bidding (online or written form)

If you are a verified live auction customer and logged into your account, you can place an online absentee bid up to when there are 10 lots left before the lot you are interested in is hammered. Simply find the lot you wish to bid on and enter your maximum bid in the “Place your bid” field, after this Bukowskis will bid on the item for you.

You may also send in a written absentee bidding form to our customer service. Click here to download the absentee bidding submission form and send the filled out form to info@bukowskis.com.

Bid live online in real-time

If you are a verified live auction customer and logged into your account, you can participate online in real-time during the auction. Find the auction you want to participate in and click “Join the live auction”, and you will be directed to Bukowskis’ live auction streaming page. The lot being sold is shown on the screen – so keep an eye out for the lot you wish to bid on. After this, you can place your bid in the “Place your bid” field.

Bid live in the sales room

If you wish to bid in the auction room, you may register for a paddle at Bukowskis, Arsenalgatan 2, Stockholm, from 10.00 am on the day of the auction. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@bukowskis.com.

Bidding by phone

If you prefer to bid by telephone, one of our specialists can call you directly from the salesroom and bid on your behalf. Simply send an email to telephonebid@bukowskis.com by 8 pm on the day before the auction. Please specify the catalogue number(s) of the lots you wish to bid on, your full name, address, customer number and telephone number(s) where you can be reached during the auction. If you don't have a customer number, you must first register an account.

After the Auction
Payment and shipping

Once the auction has ended, payment must be made within 8 working days. All payment details are available under “My Pages”. After payment has been received, you may collect your item from the office where it is stored or arrange transport to another office. Home delivery may also be arranged. Instructions for both collection and transport booking are available under “My Pages”.

Västberga Allé 3

From Monday, June 1, you are welcome to collect your items at Bukowskis, Västberga Allé 3.

As of June 8 a storage fee of 50 SEK per item and day will be charged for uncollected items. Full payment must be received before your lot can be collected.
