Muut tiedot

The design of this carpet traces its origins to the 18th-century Caucasian “Dragon” carpets, although the once-recognisable dragon motifs have gradually evolved into more abstract decorative forms. Despite these historic influences, the piece reflects the distinctive character of 19th-century Agra weaving through its striking palette of ruby red, deep forest green, and golden yellow. The carpet is further distinguished by its richly textured wool, dense and lustrous finish, and impressive monumental scale. Indian weavers frequently drew inspiration from classical Persian examples, likely referencing 16th- and 17th-century carpets preserved in the collections of the rulers of Jaipur and Bijapur.
