Rubies belong to the mineral species corundum and have been valued as gemstones for more than two thousand years. Their characteristic red color is caused by traces of chromium, and the finest examples have historically originated from Burma (present-day Myanmar), particularly the Mogok region. Due to their rarity, durability, and intense color, rubies remain among the most significant and sought-after gemstones.
