Emerging as a significant force in 1960s and 70s European jewellery, Augustin Julia Plana redefined luxury by combining high-karat gold with unconventional and raw materials. Working from Switzerland in collaboration with Simon Schlegel, he created striking, brutalist-inspired pieces that valued artistic expression above traditional gemstone conventions. Known for his innovative use of materials such as iron ore, oxidised iron, wood, meteorites, and rare stones including maw sit sit, Julia Plana became one of the era’s most visionary jewellery designers. His sculptural creations, often executed in 18k gold with bold geometric forms, received several prestigious distinctions, including multiple Diamonds International Awards. Today, his works are highly sought after for their rarity, avant-garde aesthetic, and exceptional craftsmanship.
