In the image "Självporträtt med pistol" Cecilia Edefalk stands holding a revolver in one hand, pointing it towards me as the viewer. In her other hand, she holds a camera remote shutter release. At the moment captured in the image, the revolver is aimed at the camera. As the artist presses the gun’s trigger, she simultaneously takes a self-portrait. Cecilia Edefalk threatens to shoot herself at the very moment she takes the picture.
A larger version of this motif is held in the collection of Moderna Museet:
“Edefalk questions the truthfulness of a photographic portrait. But not knowing, or rather, not being able to choose which image of myself I want to live with, my own or that of others, creates an emotional quagmire.”
— Moderna Museet, 2011.
