The Santos is one of Cartier's most historically significant watch designs. Its origins date to 1904, when Louis Cartier created a wristwatch for the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont, who wished to read the time without taking his hands from the controls of his aircraft. The distinctive square case, exposed screws and Roman numerals subsequently became some of Cartier's most recognisable design elements.
The modern Santos de Cartier combines this historic design with Cartier's self-winding calibre 1847 MC. Reference WSSA0029 is executed in stainless steel in the Medium size and features Cartier's SmartLink bracelet-adjustment system together with the QuickSwitch system, allowing the bracelet or strap to be changed without tools.
