Many exciting wines and distilled drinks of older and younger vintages conclude this year’s fine wine and spirits auctions

Autumn has passed at a dizzying pace, and as we approach the winter, we end the season with a last fine wine and spirits auction. The December auction is usually one of the year’s biggest, which is also true this year. On 30 November we will publish around 1,500 lots, with the emphasis on red Bordeaux, Champagne and malt whisky.

Champagne starts with a 1964 Comtes de Champagne and ends with a 2010 vintage that is just starting to mature. In between, there is a variety of vintage champagnes, with 1996 dominating the sale, with 60 or so lots. Many 1996 champagnes are at their peak, with a perfect balance between ripeness, acidity and fruit.

In the other major wine category Bordeaux (400 lots), we find older, still vital and legendary vintages, such as 1945, 1947 and several from 1949. The journey then continues over small and large vintages and concludes with the modern star vintages of 2009, 2010 and 2015.

The last day’s distilled drinks auction (320 or so items) will be particularly exciting, where we are auctioning a century-old Armagnac, a Bowmore 1964, a Springbank 1966 and a unique Macallan Lalique 55 years 2nd release in a crystal carafe.
