In this themed auction, we explore Clifford Jackson's artistic world — an expressionistic colorism, often highly controversial and brimming with emotions. Jackson's at times harsh yet intriguing life is reflected in his art, making it highly personal.

Clifford Earl Jackson was born in the USA on September 15, 1927, in Paterson, New Jersey. In his early youth, Jackson moved to New York and served as a radio operator towards the end of World War II. There, he witnessed the devastation in Nagasaki after the atomic bomb. Later, Jackson was reluctantly involved in the Korean War.

When Jackson began studying at an art school in New York, he had, among others, the world-renowned satirist, graphic artist, and expressionist George Grosz as his teacher. Jackson's social circle in New York primarily consisted of jazz circles around Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, Max Roach, and Benny Bailey. Read more
