Atelier Fauni perustettiin Kuuskoski-perheen toimesta vuonna 1952. Yritys valmisti käsintehtyjä hahmoja, joihin kuuluivat sekä Faunin omat peikkohahmot että Muumit. Materiaaleina käytettiin nahkaa, tekoturkista, huopaa ja muita materiaaleja. Koska tuotanto oli käsityöpohjaista, jokainen hahmo on ainutlaatuinen materiaalien, värityksen ja yksityiskohtien vaihtelun vuoksi. Vilkkaimpina vuosinaan 1960-luvulla yritys työllisti yli 150 henkilöä. Toiminta loppui vuonna 1971, mikä tarkoittaa, että kaikki Fauni-hahmot ovat nykyään useiden vuosikymmenien ikäisiä, mikä lisää niiden keräilyarvoa ja historiallista merkitystä.
