Building on the foundations of early Modernism and Functionalism, the Nordic countries’ applied arts flourished at the international world exhibitions in Paris in 1937 and New York in 1939. Scandinavian Modern became an internationally influential phenomenon, characterised by pale woods, organic forms and harmonious colour palettes. Innovative design, combined with exceptional craftsmanship, gave rise to timeless classics in which form and function were brought together without compromising on comfort or beauty.
