Today, there are few artists who can fantasize in color like Jarl Ingvarsson. He handles the quantities of the painting medium with surreal simplicity. In his paintings complexity, simplicity, seriousness, color encounter and playfulness converge. Ingvarsson balances on both very high colors and low tones, which leads to paintings that have no connection to the middle register or a careful grayscale.
Jarl Ingvarsson's art has its roots in the expressionism of the 1980s. The paintings are inspired by legendary Swedish artists such as Bror Hjort, Sven X: et Erixon and Hans Viksten. The imaginative paintings often have a theme of life, death and religion, but with everyday objects involved such as a book, a milk tetra or Bassett's liquorice allsorts. In his wild world of images, the coffee maker and an poisonous Amanitaceae meet. The playmobile man, the cartoon character Knasen and the boy with red and white-striped legs do the same.
