Muut tiedot

Development collaboration between Swiss manufacturers.

Sometime in the mid-sixties, it is reported that Eberhard, Favre Leuba, Girard Perregaux and Zodiac (as well as Doxa according to some sources) all contributed to the development of a high-beat watch movement through some form of collaboration. The “joint development” was based upon the Adolph Schild 1687/1688 ebauche and is believed to have focused on the automatic winding mechanism of the movement, but each manufacturer ultimately entered the market with a solution so different that there were actually four distinct movements and it was not even possible to interchange parts between them, so the degree to which there actually was any "joint development" is unclear. What is clear is that among these four collaborating companies, Girard-Perregaux succeeded in bringing the technology to market first.

The Zodiac caliber 86, another result of the Swiss collaboration
Little information is available regarding the actual development of Zodiac’s first high-beat calibers: 76, 86 and 88 other than that they appear to be the result of an independent effort focused on the automatic winding mechanism also based on the same base Adolph Schild ebauche as the Girard-Perregaux 32A. The Zodiac movements featured a Triovis micrometer regulator and 40 hour power reserve. These calibers were not actually introduced in Zodiac watches until 1970, in a number of different case shapes and styles, and it appears that all of these carried the SST (Split Second Timing) 36000 sub-brand on the dial.

Zodiac SST 36000
The High-Beat Collection features the Zodiac SST 36000 reference 862-931 with the caliber 86 automatic movement with 21 jewels, sweep center seconds, luminous hour and minute hands, and day and date functions, with signed dial and crown.
