Zoe Barcza, born in 1984 in Toronto, Canada, lives and works in Los Angeles and Stockholm. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto, Canada, and subsequently her MFA from HFBK Städelschule in Frankfurt, Germany. Her art focuses on the human body and explores cultural, political, and social forces.Confrontational text often surrounds Barcza’s exaggerated figures, masquerading as corporate slogans, feminist mantras, teenage confessions and more, as the artist navigates various cultural niches with the playful balance between engagement and irreverence that engenders the precise humor of her oeuvre. Her works have been featured in several international exhibitions, including Shoot The Lobster, New York; Loyal Gallery, Stockholm; Polansky Gallery, Prague; ICA, Halifax; as well as COOPER COLE and Art Metropole, Toronto.
