Andreas Glad's works are constantly approaching the impending and inevitable downfall. Man has vanished to leave room for empty streets, shadows and trees. Glad’s artistic expression is realistic and depicts places left to fate, places that once were thoroughly planned, well attended and taken care of. But besides the greenery, you see nothing left alive. Buildings appear as memorials in the deserted landscapes, where time has just stopped. Was this caused by war, disasters, climate change or pollution; are we watching the downfall of humanity?

Glad’s work is ambiguous, he both embraces and violates realistic painting. He gives the viewer true-to-life images of everyday life and the world around us. But something is chafing in his paintings, creating both a sense of belonging and a sense of alienation. His process also involves the creation of 3D models – miniature landscapes which are meticulously put together from scraps of paper, cardboard and wood.

Andreas Glad (b. 1976 in Linköping) lives and works in Malmö. He graduated from Bergen Academy of Art with a Master’s degree in 2007 and received his BFA from Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2005. Previous solo exhibitions include Sörmlands Museum (2024), Ljungbergmuseet (2023), Berg Gallery, Stockholm (2022), Galleri Thomas Wallner, Simris (2019), and Galleri Ping-Pong, Malmö (2017). His work has also been included in group exhibitions at Moderna Museet, Malmö, Skissernas Museum, Lund, Konstakademien, Stockholm, Linköpings Konsthall, Havremagasinet, Boden, and Liljevalchs Konsthall, Stockholm. Glad is represented in the collections of Malmö Konstmuseum, Norrköpings Konstmuseum, Public Art Agency Sweden, Swedish Association for Art (SAK), and Region Skåne, among others. In 2021, Glad received Ljungbergmuseet's Scholarship, awarded by Sven and Ann Margret Ljungberg's Foundation, for "his calm coloristic paintings that contain both observation and criticism".
