India have a long tradition of erotic motifs in art, where both religious texts such as the Rig Veda and iconic images celebrate the power of love and life. The gods of Hinduism, such as Shiva and Parvati or Radha and Krishna, represent ideal lovers, while erotic sculptures in temples like Khajuraho and detailed miniature paintings have existed for thousands of years. The tradition of erotic motifs is still appreciated by collectors today and is often associated with the book Kamasutra, Vātsyāyana Kāmasūtram, which is believed to have been written sometime between the first century BCE and the 5th century CE, and aims to serve as a manual for practical sexual conduct.
