Veikko Keränen (1935–2004) was a Swedish-Finnish sculptor with a strong grounding in the classically modernist tradition. He worked in materials such as bronze, stone, wood and metal, and his art is characterised by a profound sense of form, space and movement.
His artistic career began in music. He discovered jazz at an early age, learned to play the saxophone, and toured for several years as a musician. The rhythm, improvisation and balance between structure and freedom found in jazz would later reappear as themes in his sculpture.
