In this atmospheric image, Nils Kreuger captures a motif that became central to his artistic career: the horses in the expansive Öland landscape. After moving to Öland in the 1890s, the artist developed a personal visual language where nature's open horizon and the tranquil everyday life in the agricultural setting were in focus. Particularly Stora Alvaret – the barren limestone plain in the southern part of the island – became a recurring source of inspiration. With his characteristic pointillist technique, Kreuger accentuates the components of the motif in a particularly effective manner.
