In Pernilla Zetterman’s art, the gaze is central. Through photography, glass displays, objects and sculptural works, she explores how distance, perspective and scale can alter what is being viewed. Her concept-driven works often take an installation-like form, where the spatial arrangement makes it possible to move between the whole and the detail. Acrylic, wood, aluminium and foil are among the materials she uses.
Memory and personal history are recurring points of departure. Zetterman returns to environments and experiences from her upbringing, allowing them to intersect with questions of relationships, inheritance and social structures. In "Close", comprising 49 works in photography, video and objects, the stable environment and the relationship between humans and horses are the focus. By returning to an environment that was significant during her own childhood and adolescence, personal memory is linked to a broader perspective on the social structures and rules that shape it.
