Peter Frie has consistently chosen the path of colour and painting over the more conceptual currents of contemporary art. Since the 1970s, he has developed a deeply personal visual language where landscape, memory, and the inherent power of colour are central.
Fries emerged during a period when much of Swedish art was moving towards idea-based expressions, but he remained committed to painting as an existential and sensory medium. In his works, we often encounter the open landscape, a motif that may evoke the tradition of Nordic plein air painting. However, for Fries, nature is never merely depicted.
