Max Koner (Born in Berlin in 1854, the painter Max Koner studied at the Prussian Academy of Arts from 1873 to 1878 and attended the classes of Eduard Daege, Eduard Holbein, Anton von Werner and Max Michael. In 1875 he traveled to Italy and in 1878 to Paris. He was initially interested in landscapes, but from 1888 he focused on portraits. Koner was one of the most recognized portraitists of his time, receiving orders from the imperial court, other noble houses and the fine Berlin society. In 1893 he was accepted as member of the Academy and received a gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition in the following year.)
