Pharmacopoea svecica. Editions printed in 1817 (2 different), 1845 (editio sexta), 1871 (editio septima, iterum typis descripta, ed. VII. 2.).

Stockholm 1817, 1817, 1845, 1871. One 1817 edition in 4to, the remaining in 8vo. [10] + XVIII + [4] + 166 + [30] pp.; [6] + 312 pp.; + VIII + 236 pp; + X + 280 pp.

Four volumes. Ed. 1817 4to in later half calf with marbled sides, edges and endleaves (G. Hedberg), bookplate and stamp of Gustaf H. J. Dahl, inscription crossed out from title, occasional slighly clumsy contemporary annotations in text, an official printed proclamation about this edition bound first (1817, [4] pp.). Ed. 1817 8vo in later marbled boards (G. Hedberg), uncut, occasional spotting, very faint dampstain in gutter and a small corner repair. Final page with faint old annotations in ink, visible on verso and its facing page. Possibly washed. Ed. 1845 in contemporary lightly worn half leather, text fine with an insignificant marginal stain on p. 133. Ed. 1871 in contemporary slightly worn half calf, text fine, final page foxed.

Alkuperä - Provenienssi

From the Collection of Fil. Dr Gunnar Göthberg. He was early on interested in the historical development of medicine. He was one of the founder of the 'Farmacihistoriska Sällskapet' in 1972. Gunnar himself translated from Latin to Swedsih the first edition of the Swedish Farmakope, dating from 1775, he was then himself 85 years old. In 1999 he was awarded the titel of honorary doctor of the Hummaniora faculty in Gothenburg and he was also an honorary member of the the Society of Pharmacists and the Society of Pharmaceutical History.
