Made of lacquered metal with leather details. Optics by Carl Zeiss. Both the instrument and the case are cylindrical in shape. The length of the instrument is approximately 83 cm (total length with case 85 cm). The case includes a compartment containing two filters, a brush, and a chamois leather in a pouch.

These were used in the mobile coastal artillery. During measurements, the person measuring carried the instrument resting on their shoulders. The instrument has a fixed distance scale against which the measurer determines the distance. The auction item's measurer is intended to measure distances between 200-10,000 meters. According to the plaque, the distance instrument has a base of 0.70 m and a magnification of 11x.
