Carl Peter Thunberg’s 4-volume account of his travels to Southern Europe, Africa, Java, Japan, Ceylon etc. in 1770-1779. With engraved vignette of Cape of Good Hope and 10 engraved plates (9 folding).
Four volumes, later half morocco, spines richly gilt, marbled edges. Slightly rubbed, spines faded, occasional old underlinings and small annotations throughout, dog-ears, one leaf in the second volume lightly soiled, some 8 leaves in third volume with mended tears and paper defects, apparently done at the time of printing. Loss of just a few letters. Engraved bookplate of Seth Kempe.
