During the evening's Modern Art + Design auction, several international artists were represented and an important sculpture by Catalan sculptor Julio González became one of the auctions lots sold over 1 million SEK. Leander Engström and Einar Jolin were represented with expressive masterpieces that belonged to the auctions most sought after art works. Inge Schiöler and Ragnar Sandberg with their very intense and sensual colouring were also very popular. The early cubist work "Balkongen" by Siri Derkert belonged to the highlights next to the masters such as GAN and Otto G. Carlsund.
Two incredibly strong works by Alexander Calder, who were distinguished by contours, steady geometric shapes and delimited surfaces, received intense bidding. Lynn Chadwick's characteristic sculptures were strongly in demand also internationally and sold for 492 000 SEK.
"We are seeing a strong trend, where buyers are looking for the best and most significant art works, both here in Sweden and internationally. The market for modern art is picky and history and provenance are crucial for the price", says Andreas Rydén, deputy managing director, head specialist art.
