Wanted: Flora cabinets to Bukowskis spring’s major hammer auction

The Austrian architect Josef Frank is one of our times most foremost designers and his furniture is highly wanted on auctions, not only in Scandinavia but also on the international market. His deep imprint on the Swedish design history has characterized by a freer and more artistic style ideal where values like color richness and peace at home are in focus, rather than standardized and puritanical principals. Josef Frank’s objects are highly covetable and over time become icons and classics – items that never seems to go out of time. One of this most coveted items is the cabinet called Flora, which the he design for Firma Svenskt Tenn. The cabinet is also called ”Modell 852” and is a solid, unique and delicate cabinet in mahogny wood, decorated in wallpaper of flora from either Palmstruchs or C.A.M Lindmans Nordens Flora – a beautiful combination that spoke to Josef Frank when he turned his eyes towards Great Britain. To decorate furniture with either fabrics or wallpaper belonged to the English furniture culture, and it was the combination of the soft fabric and wall covering as a contract to the hard wood, that spoke to the architect and later on lead to several cabinet with this unique expression. The high legs were added for an inviting and airy expression.
