The catalogue for this fall's dynamic and eccentric hammer auction with contemporary art is here: Contemporary Art & Design. The selection is carefully curated and hand picked by Bukowskis' art specialists to present an unique selection of contemporary art, prints, photography and sculpture. We have spoken to Bukowskis' contemporary art specialist, Louise Wrede, about the upcoming hammer auction that takes place October 23rd.
Which are your favorite art works in the Contemporary Art & Design auction?
57. RICHARD HAMBLETON, "Marlboro Country"
It’s going to be very exciting to follow the auction of Richard Hambleton’s painting “Marlboro Country” which I think can increase a lot. Hambleton, known as one of the pioneers of street art, was established at New York’s art scene in the 1980s together with Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, among others. The painting, which is an oil on canvas, is signed and date 1989 on verso.
65. MATTHIAS BITZER, "Staring at the Sun"
There are many great objects in this fall’s auction, but I really admire Matthias Bitzer’s exceptional artwork “Staring at the Sun”. Bitzer explores history and identity, he finds the source of inspiration in Euclidean geometry and historical personalities. Through his artistry, Bitzer's works have become increasingly multi-layered and his precise and carefully composed works offer the viewer visual networks that break our perception of time and space.
84. VERONICA BROVALL, "Motherfucker 1"
It is the first time that Veronika Brovall is on auction, this is her wayward sculpture ”Motherfucker 1”. She works with ceramics and finds her inspiration in the visual language of graffiti. Brovall is included in the Moderna Museum Collection in Stockholm and Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, Los Angeles. Her next exhibition will be at Uppsala Art Museum and Bror Hjorts Hus 2019.
152. MARIA MIESENBERGER, "Stilla rörelse/Standing Motion (landande/landing)
It is very exciting to have the opportunity to sell Maria Miesenberger’s sculpture ”Stilla rörelse/Standing Motion (landande/landing)”, since she is one of the most well-known artists of our time, not least among the public sculptures across the country. The suite of sculptures ”Stilla rörelse/Standing Motion” were first shown at the Lars Bohman Gallery in 2013.
