Great interest in Swedish design from the early 20th century

Remarkable final prices for the Swedish Grace department

Bukowskis Modern Art + Design auction had an incredible start with Simon Gate’s engraved” Bacchus” bowl that became the auctions first lot to sell over one million SEK. The elegant bowl achieved an unprecedented final price of 1 102 500 SEK and was the highlight of the Swedish Grace department.

- It is amazing to see that the interest for Swedish Grace is huge both in Sweden and internationally. The 1920s was a golden era in the Swedish design history and the term Swedish Grace got its proper breakthrough at the Paris Exhibition in 1925, where Simon Gate’s bowl” Bacchus” was exhibited. My personal favourite is the veneered Otto Schulz cabinets who achieved a final price of 477 750 SEK, says Eva Seeman, Specialist Design and 20th Century Works of Art Department.

One out of many highlights from the Swedish Grace-department was Tor Hörlins magnificent cabinet with painted landscape decor that was made during his years at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, which achieved a final price of 242 250 SEK. A sought-after lion sculpture by Anna Petrus achieved a final price of 56 530 SEK and seven powerful cast iron jardinières by Ivar Johnsson were sold for a final price of 85 750 SEK, to name a few of the department’s highlights.
