Spring's most prominent auction results in 12 lots exceeding one million sek

Bukowskis is pleased to present 12 lots exceeding 1 million SEK and final prices high above estimate during Important Spring Sale. The masterpiece ”En Eva” by Anders Zorn, one of the highlights in the auction, became the most expensive painting sold this spring and reached a final price of 8 452 000 SEK.

– Art and works of art in good condition are always very sought-after and we are very proud to present such a strong result with high final prices and many International bidders. We are looking forward to another successful auction season this autumn, says Björn Extergren, Head of consignment and sales department.

The first day of the auction presented several art pieces by some of the greatest Swedish masters, such as Anders Zorn, Carl Larsson and Bruno Liljefors. Carl Larsson’s artwork ”Sommar i Sundborn/Flicka i Trädgård” and Anders Zorn’s ”Mrs. Walter Bacon”, were two of the auctions´ highlights reaching a final price of 5 573 750 SEK and 2 695 000 SEK.

– A personal favourite is Helene Schjerfbeck, soon on view in London this summer at the Royal Academy of Arts. This added somewhat a little extra excitement to be able to display and sell her magnificent artworks ”Luktärter” and ”Ung kvinna”. Both pieces were sold high above estimate after intense bidding from both Swedish and international bidders, says Andreas Rydén, Head specialist art and deputy managing director.

Included in the furniture department were top lots like a Gustavian commode by Gottlieb Iwersson from the late 18th century, reaching a final price of 563 000 SEK and two masterly pieces of furniture from Haupt sold for 379 750 SEK and 281 750 SEK, respectively.

– Unique pieces with character and history are always highly regarded among our customers. A table clock signed by clockmaker Claudius Du Chesne Londnin reaching the final price of 453 250 SEK and two decorative table girandoles from 1810 that sold for 453 250 SEK are two great examples, says Henrik Åberg, Specialist furniture and works of art.

– Density makes a difference. A 30-year-old Isfahan with its’ ca 1-1,1 million knots per square meter sold three times above estimate at 110 250 SEK. My true favourite, a Ziegler Mahal from the 19th century, showing signs of wear and damages also found a fortunate new owner. Last but not least, a bright and lovely ”Gyllenruta” and an elegant ”Falurutan” by Barbro Nilsson for MMF AB were sold at prices high above estimate, says Anette Granlund, Specialist carpets and Islamic works of art.

The Asian department offered energetic bidding with both Swedish and International bidders. Many of the items went far over estimate and their prices skyrocketed. One example evidencing the great interest was a pair of ’butterfly and peonies’ dishes from the Yongzheng Emperor period (1723-36), that reached an incredible final price of 2 995 125 SEK.

– The Chinese market has turned and is on the rise again. There is a great interest in art pieces from fine Swedish collections. Our long-term hard work has paid off and we are very proud of the trust from sellers as well as buyers, says Cecilia Nordström, Head Specialist Asian Ceramics & Works of Art.

The delicate pendant from Fabergé offered a truly intense bidding in the comprehensive jewellery department. The final price reached incredible 2 633 750 SEK, most definitely a top lot in the auction.

  • – The exquisite pendant had everything our collectors are looking for such as provenance, an iconic designer, who also designed two of the most famous imperial Fabergé eggs and great quality and handicraft, says Cecilia Andrén, Head Specialist Jewellery.*
