The specialist's choice – Jonatan Jahn lists design

Specialists choice Jonatan Jahn

This season's Contemporary Design catalogue features an eclectic selection of postmodern and contemporary design and crafts. At the department for design in this spring's auction Contemporary Art & Design, one will find several current designers as representatives of our contemporary design scene. Before the auction on April 20, we spoke with Bukowskis' design specialist Jonatan Jahn who selected his favourites.

What can we look forward to at this season's Contemporary Art & Design auction?

46. Mårten Medbo Cut glass bowl, "Core", Ajeto, Novy Bor, Czech Republic 2010, ed. 1 / 4.

Mårten Medbos is a Swedish artisan who has gained international attention for his sculptural works. Medbo's items have long been personal favourites. His powerful expression, whether in glass or ceramic, is so strong and unique. The objects he made for Ajeto in the Czech Republic we rarely see and are therefore a little extra fun to work with. The powerful relief and surface elevate the craft and material to new heights. A real gem in any contemporary collection!

85. Borek Sipek, 'Ota Otanek', armchair, Vitra after 1988.

Borek Sipek was a Czech architect and designer who successfully created a highly personal and unmistakable design language. His works are often lavish and often offer highly unexpected encounters of material, colour and texture. His unique style is admirable in my eyes; he is a designer who is considered by many to be a genius. The Ota Otanek chair is a shining example of his ability to create his own design language with different materials and expressions.

100. Lindsey Adelman Taklampa, Catch CS.07.01. 'Lindsey Adelman Studio, Los Angeles, USA, 2016

Lindsey Adelman is an American designer that we do not encounter so often in Sweden. Her exclusive luminaires have been a worldwide success and are widely used by interior designers and private individuals. Adelman has been running her studio in Los Angeles since 2006, where everything is made by hand. Her luminaires are often inspired by nature. These lamps create a spaciousness that other luminaires often lack. This series is called Catch and consists of large organically shaped and hand-blown glass domes with a base of brass. If you appreciate Adelman's expression, this is a real bargain!

105. Patrick Norguet 'Rainbow Chair', Cappellini, efter 2000

Patrick Rainbow is a contemporary french designer that works for many different producers and within several genres. Patrick Norguet has been involved in collaborations with iconic fashion and design brands such as Louis Vuitton, Lanvin, Guerlain, Christian Dior, Cappellini and Cassina. Norguet is appreciated for his french touch and aesthetics, whether in fashion or design. In the Contemporary Art & Design sale, we have included one of his signature designs, the Rainbow chair for Cappellini. This spectacular chair was called the rainbow chair and was designed for the legendary Italian company Cappellini in 2000. The Rainbow chair is a challenging high-tech project. The production includes high-tech industry machines as well as manually hand-polished surfaces. The chair is based on acrylic resin bands in different colours to create the pattern and shape. The bands are then fused using ultrasound. This process creates a unique transparent expression without any joints or other material. When the light hits the chair, it makes a beautiful pattern in its environment. This chair's strength is the contrast between the artists' personal aesthetics and the technological possibilities developed in the furniture industry. This chair is already a contemporary classic and represented in The Museum of Modern Art collections in New York.
