Andreas Weinås is a fashion editor with a deep passion for vintage watches and unique collectables, and a go-to inspiration for timeless style. Working as a freelance writer and editor for several magazines featuring the worlds most interesting watch producers, collectors and tastemakers within men's fashion, we asked him to choose his personal favourites within the upcoming watch auction Important Timepieces. How has your collection changed over time?

– My collection has varied and changed a lot over time. When I started collecting, I, and many others with me, focused heavily on vintage Rolex. I'm still a big fan, especially the sports watches with plexiglass and matte dials from the '70s. Since then, my interest has developed towards more modern and formal alternatives where first Patek and, more recently, Cartier have taken over much of my interest. I have also scaled down the collection from simpler watches to fewer with higher quality.

What trends do you see in watch collecting at the moment?

– When I started, watch collecting, in general, was almost exclusively focused on vintage watches, but what happened is that interest in modern watches has increased massively over the past 5-10 years. Much due to the increase in value and demand, especially models from Rolex, Patek, and Richard Mille, but what really makes me glad is that ”smaller” brands such as F.P Journe have received an appreciation and increase in value, which they really deserve.

How would you describe your collection of watches?

– Since I started collecting, I have been fascinated by the classics. Models such as AP Royal Oak, Rolex GMT Master or Cartier Tank, whose design has gone from time-typical to timeless and, in the last case, has been virtually unchanged for 100 years. Today I have narrowed down the collection to fewer watches that I love. I usually collect smaller timepieces between 35-40mm, which I think fit better on my wrist.
