Important Winter Sale presents objects from the Broström family's private collection

Bukowskis has been given the honourable task of auctioning off the estate of Heidi Boyce Broström at the Important Winter Sale. The collection includes an exceptional collection of jewels, silver and Asian furniture and works of art with provenance from the Broström family.

Heidi's friendly manners and knowledge of the beautiful objects in the home of her and her late husband, Dan-Axel Broström, made a big impression on us. Her knowledge of furniture, Orrefors, modern art and other objects that surrounded her was truly impressive. Heidi Boyce Broström originally came from Canada and met Dan-Axel Broström, managing director of the now legendary Broströmrederierna, on a trip to Acapulco.

The Broström couple lived for many years in a magnificent villa in Lorensberg in central Gothenburg. After Dan-Axel died in 1976, Heidi Broström moved to their summer villa on the exclusive Särö. Heidi Broström found herself in her role as Gothenburg's leading lady. In her home, she offered dinners that were always well-planned and the table settings always had Heidi's touch of elegance. The floral arrangements were always striking and often the flowers came from Heidi's garden.

Those who knew her testify to her great generosity, kindness and easy and sincere manners, with her wonderful "Swenglish" accent.

Jewellery highlights from the Broström Collection

Heidi Broström's eclectic but also personal jewellery collection testifies to a discerning ability to select only the best. Like many others from her generation, she often turned to the legendary Swedish firm WA Bolin for her jewellery purchases, and several of the collection's pieces are made in the company's workshop, including a magnificent emerald ring from 1973.

Heidi Broström has been called Sweden's Jackie Onassis, and just like the American style icon with a shipping magnate for a husband, she chose to wear Greek jewellery. The delightful gold jewellery set from Maramenos and Pateras, with its stylistic roots in ancient aesthetics, is an ornament for any jewellery collection. The collection's crown jewel is undoubtedly the beautiful emerald necklace in a clear Art Deco style, made in France, as it should be!

Asian highlights from the Heidi Broström Collection

Heidi and Dan-Axel Broström had a great passion for Asian art and works of art. Among the highlights of the collection, we find a large and impressive gilt bronze figure of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara/Guanyin, Ming dynasty (1368–1644). Cast seated in dhyanasana holding a ruyi-head sceptre in the left and right hands, wearing a long floral-edged robe falling in folds around the legs and open at the chest to reveal elaborate beaded jewellery. The serene face with downcast eyes below high arched brows and a small smiling bud mouth, all framed by a high pierced pointed tiara/crown with part of the hair swept up in a high ushnisha, part of the hair cascading down around the shoulders. The inside is painted with an iron red consecration colour. Height 51 cm.
