Unique Studio Design and Great Success for Warhol at Contemporary Art & Design

The Nordic region’s only dedicated auction for contemporary art and design offered a vibrant event this week. Highlights included works by Andy Warhol, an extensive photography section, contemporary design masters, and an exciting lineup of unique studio design.

One of the auction’s major highlights was a number of works by the American pop artist Andy Warhol. In total, the Warhol section featured seventeen works, three of which sold for over a million SEK. The most expensive piece sold was La Grande Passion, an acrylic and silkscreen on canvas from 1984, which achieved a final price of SEK 2,750,000. Two graphic works depicting Mick Jagger also sold for over a million SEK.

Further highlights from the art section included works by Swedish artists such as Peter Frie, Maria Miesenberger, Ola Billgren, and Andreas Eriksson, as well as international names like Niki de Saint Phalle, Donald Baechler, Tony Cragg, and Vladimir Velickovic.

The auction also presented an extensive photography section, featuring international top names such as Gerhard Richter, David LaChapelle, Terry O’Neill, and Anton Corbijn. Gerhard Richter’s photograph Ella was the most expensive sale in the photography section, achieving a final price of SEK 416,000.

The design section showcased several interesting collections, including a group of chairs with provenance from Lasse Åberg, and a collection of sculptures and vases by Mårten Medbo. In addition to international design masters like Ettore Sottsass and Mario Bellini, the section also offered an exciting selection of contemporary studio design from Swedish names such as Niklas Runesson.
