Bukowskis’ autumn Contemporary Art & Design auction offers a wide range of international lots, including works by the biggest names on the innovative art scene of the 1960s and 1970s – Warhol, Rauschenberg, Klein, Lichtenstein, Beuys and de Saint Phalle. International artists who made their breakthrough in the 2000s are also highly represented. It is always a pleasure to introduce new names and this time we have several artists whose works are being seen on the Scandinavian auction market for the first time.

The auction also includes an unusually large sculpture section with works by Swedish and internationally acclaimed artists. Sculpture as an art form has enjoyed a significant upswing in recent years, a trend that remains strong.

Several of the artists whose works are included in this autumn’s auction are simultaneously holding exhibitions, or have done so this year. Siri Berg’s paintings have been exhibited at Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm, Lars Lerin enjoyed a recent success at Liljevalchs Konsthall, and Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg’s films captivated audiences at Moderna Museet all summer. Karin Mamma Andersson is currently a curator for the São Paolo Art Biennial in Brazil. Alfred Boman, Fredrik Vaerslev, Vik Muniz and Lars Tunbjörk also have exhibitions running at the moment.

The high-quality works in the auction’s photography section span a range of interesting genres. These include works by artists from The Helsinki School, several pictures that could be said to sum up the career of Tuija Lindström, and a section on Jean Hermanson’s documentary depictions of Swedish industrial settings. Together with Vik Muniz’ monumental interpretation of Munch’s “The Scream” and the many portraits of icons from fashion and music history, this part of the auction shows how forms of expression within the technique of photography can be endlessly varied.

The design department at Contemporary Art & Design presents both objects by iconic designers from the 1980s and 90s but also pure contemporary designs. Well-known objects from Swedish Jonas Bohlin's and Math Theselius’ rich design portfolios, along with pieces from international masters such as Ettore Sottsass with his classic shelf Carlton for the Memphis group, are included. We can also present a true sculptural and very rare piece by Ron Arad, ”2 R Not”, in polished and patinated steel. In addition to these classics, we are pleased to present lighting fixtures by Lotta Lampa, as well as Hanna Hansdotter’s tactile and cool vases, along with a smooth – as well as rigid – Scottish chair in sandstone by Nick Ross.
