Scandinavian Modern

Bukowskis presents an exclusive selection of furniture and decorative arts, focusing on Scandinavian design from the 1930s to the 1960s. Danish, Swedish and Finnish design has inspired people around the world and shaped the interiors of our homes for almost a century.

Building on the foundations of early Modernism and Functionalism, the Nordic countries’ applied arts flourished at the international world exhibitions in Paris in 1937 and New York in 1939. Scandinavian Modern became an internationally influential phenomenon, characterised by pale woods, organic forms and harmonious colour palettes. Innovative design, combined with exceptional craftsmanship, gave rise to timeless classics in which form and function were brought together without compromising on comfort or beauty.

This themed auction presents a carefully curated selection of iconic furniture designs by, among others, Axel Einar Hjorth, Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto and Otto Schulz. Explore this collection of exceptional Scandinavian design.
