A set consisting of a Heuer Auto-Rallye, a Heuer Master-Time 8 Days, and a Heuer stopwatch. According to the seller's information, he received all three watches as a gift from his childhood friend, the rally driver and co-driver Rolf Dahlgren, in 1994. Dahlgren stated that the Heuer Auto-Rallye and the stopwatch had been used in the Lancia Flavia Coupé that Ove "The Pope" Andersson drove with him as co-driver in the Acropolis Rally in 1966. The Heuer Master-Time, which is of later manufacture, was included in the gift but is not linked to the 1966 competition. Andersson and Dahlgren finished in fourth place in the rally.
Wear due to age and use.
Information provided by the seller:
Rolf Dahlgren had been a close friend of mine since childhood. Like me, he became both a sailor and a rally co-driver, competing during his career alongside, among others, Calle Orrenius, Erik Carlsson and Ove “Påven” Andersson. We remained in contact throughout our lives and met from time to time.
In 1993, Rolf told me that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and that he probably did not have long to live. On 12 August 1994, I visited him at his home on Ingarö. Although he was seriously ill, we spent a memorable half-day together.
When it was time to say goodbye, I accompanied him down to the basement, where he kept objects from his years in rallying. There, he took out a Heuer Master-Time, a Heuer Auto-Rallye and a Heuer stopwatch, which he presented to me with the words: “I won’t be needing these anymore.” Deeply moved, I accepted his generous gift.
Rolf told me that the Heuer Auto-Rallye and the stopwatch had been used in the Lancia Flavia Coupé driven by Ove “Påven” Andersson, with Rolf as co-driver, in the 1966 Acropolis Rally.
Ove Andersson and Rolf Dahlgren finished fourth overall in the 1966 Acropolis Rally.
Ove "The Pope" Andersson (1938–2008) was a legendary Swedish rally driver and team manager who was one of the prominent figures in international rallying, including events such as the Acropolis Rally. Ove Andersson, known by the nickname "The Pope," was one of the successful drivers who competed in the demanding Acropolis Rally in Greece during his active career. He won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1971, among other achievements, and was a pioneer for Toyota in the World Rally Championship. Tragically, Ove Andersson lost his life in a car accident during a historic rally event in South Africa in 2008.
Ove “The Pope” Andersson and Rolf Dahlgren drove the Acropolis Rally together in 1966 in a Lancia Fulvia Coupé HF, finishing fourth overall.
