In latin. Plantin device on title, 135 wood-engravings in text. Small 8° in 18th century full leather binding.
First Plantin edition. An abbreviation of the famous history of Scandinavia which first appeared at Rome in 1555 and enjoyed a resounding success. Plantin's patron, Corneille Grapheus, brought a copy to Belgium and undertook the abbreviation himself. The 135 cuts, reductions by Arnold Nicolai from the Rome folio edition, represent all aspects of social life, among which are skiing and whaling.

Wear, some small stains, som old writing in ink, some traces of insects, last page with damage at border.
