Ett tidigt arbete efter det att Linnerhielm anställdes som extra ordinarie kanslist vid Krigsexpeditionen i Stockholm 1776. I början av sin vistelse i Stockholm tog han privatlektioner av grafikern Jacob Gillberg (1724-1793), vars inflytande kan spåras i lavyren.
