A French Empire early 19th Century mantel clock, "Amitié cachant les Heures", by Antoine André Ravrio and Porchez.

Gilt and patinated bronse, and verde antico. Dial face marked "Porchez horloger à Paris Ravrio bronzier". Height 72, length 40,5 cm.

One mount on the right side missing.

More information

Ravrio kom från en mycket aktad konstnärsfamilj med konstnärer, bronsmakare och ebenister såsom Lacroix och J. H. Riesener. Efter att ha blivit personligt rekommenderad av P. P. Thomire kom han in på Compte d’Artois. Ravrio deltog i den första Industriutställningen i Paris 1803 och vann en silvermedalj på samma utställning 1806. Efter att ha inrett kejsarinnan Josephines våning i Tuilerierna med bronsmöblemang blev Ravrio utnämnd till kejsar Napoleons bronstillverkare 1810.
