Sanders bilder finns med i betydelsefulla samlingar världen över och så även på Moderna Museet i Stockholm där ett helt rum ägnades åt hans projekt "People of the 20th Century" i utställningen med deras fotografiska samling, ”En annan historia”. Projektet består av över 40 000 bilder, där han porträtterar den tyska befolkningen. Bilderna delades in i sju olika kategorier som beskriver människornas yrke och leverne, alltifrån SS-soldater till kontorister och cirkusartister. Sanders projekt ogillades av det nazistiska styret och både han och hans familj fick känna på dess politiska konsekvenser.
