I likhet med konstruktivistiska och minimalistiska målningar så har Kolehmainens fotografier skapats med tredimensionella former som utgångspunkt. Det genomgående temat för hans bilder är arkitektur, han har avbildat byggnader och fasader från flertalet platser runt om i världen. Kolehmainen tar dock inga dokumentära bilder, det är inte byggnadens arkitektoniska värden som intresserar honom, han fokuserar istället på att lyfta fram mindre detaljer och förvandla dem till tvådimensionella mer eller mindre abstrakta mönster.
