Liksom de rutiga målningarna från samma tid utgör den från en förbisedd, och något schangserad, vardagsabstraktion. I det här fallet ett tyg införskaffat på en loppmarknad i det på den tiden mycket förfallna Östberlin.
Titeln anspelar på detta. Karl Marx Allé är/var en paradgata i just Östberlin. En fallen utopi."
