"The Fortune Teller"
Pocket watch in yellow metal. Manually winding. 1993. Limited and numbered 27/150. Made by Grotell and Florian Favre.
Acquired directly from the artist.
This watch was created in 1993 by Cindy Sherman as part of Art Object project, a collection of limited edition artist-designed objects to benefit the American Foundation for Aids Research (AMFAR). It was produced in collaboration with Barney's NYC and sold exclusively at Barney's Inc. It has a ring on top for a chain, so it can be worn as a pocket watch, brooch or necklace. The watch face is a portrait of Cindy Sherman impersonating a fortune teller consulting a crystal ball. This image is a print of one of Cindy Sherman's most iconic photographs - the 1993 Fortune Teller.
