A gilt bronze figure of Amitayus, Qing dynasty, Qianlong (1736-95).

Numbering with characters to inside of base. Seated i dhyanasana on a pierced bracket base, before a flammiform mandorla, dressed in a siaphanous robe and with an elaborated jeweled head-dress holding a bowl. Height 20,5 cm.

Traces of paint, wear to gilding.

Many similar statues of Amitayus were made especially during the Qing dynasty, since it was believed that the merit gained by commissioning multiple images would increase the life of both the donor and to the person they were given. Emperor Qianlong had a great number of these statues made for his and his mothers birthday.
