An armorial tureen with cover and a serving dish, Qing dynasty, Qianlong (1736-95).

Decorated with the Swedish arms of the Gyllenborg family. Lenght 38 cm.

Cover with repair to rim.

Provenance

With the arms of Fredrik Gyllenborg (1698-1759). . Fredrik Gyllenborg held a political career and was the president of the Bank. He was also one of the main investors in the Swedish East India company's second oktroj (1746-66). He owned Torsåker, Hammarby socken, Broby in Söderbykarls socken, both in the area of Stockholm. The drawing set to China has probably been damaged due to dampness of the ship. The skillful painters have then copied this thoroughly without realizing the fault on every piece of the service. Thence the black cloud surrounding the coat of arm.
