A George III ebonised and brass-mounted striking and musical automaton table clock, Stephen Rimbault, London, 1744-85.

The case with brass handle, pineapple finials to the corners, with caryatid mounts to all corners, raised on brass bracket feet, the circa 19 cm wide brass dial, silvered chapter ring, matted centre with mock pendulum and date, plate signed "Step:n Rimbault LONDON". Blued steel hands, the chapter ring bisected by subsidiary rings for strike/silent and tune selection (Lass of the Hill, Minuet, Tweed Side, March, White Joak, Minuet), each with floral painted centres, the arch with painted landscape and scene of shepherd and cattle. With hour strike on bell on top with Chinese figure. Music work with 12 bells. Height 68, length 38, width 25,5 cm.
