A famille rose "Imperial wedding" cup, Qing dynasty, Daoguang (1821-50). Sealmark in red.

Painted in vivid famille rose colours, the interior with stylized lotus, the exterior with alternating figure and animal subjects within leaf-shaped panels between borders of stylized characters. Height 6,2, diameter 9 cm.

Insignificant fritting.

Provenance

This cup is from the service that Empror Dauguang gave his daughter Gurun Princess Shou'an (12 May 1826 - 23 April 1860) at her wedding with mongolian prince Demchüghjab in 1841.

Literature

Soame Jenyns; Later Chinese Porcelain, pl CXII, fig 1. According to Soame Jenyns the bowls were made for the wedding of Daoguangs daughter who married a Mongolian prince of the Tumed banner. The inscription translates to 'Baragon Tumed'.
