A set with two Chinese Wu Peifu medals, early 20th Century

Both with a portrait of Wu Peifu, one a marksmanship medal the other a merit medal. Silver gilt. Original ribbon and case. Measurements 52 mm and 40 mm.

Original case; reverse with small enamel damage on one flag.

Provenance

Given to Carl Victor Lagerholm by Wu Peifu. Wu Peifu (1874-1939), was a major figure in the struggles between the warlords who dominated Republican China from 1916 to 1927. Known in China as the Jade Marshall.

In 1901 the Swedish Engineers Carl Lagerholm and Wilhelm Olivecrona, was comissioned by the Russian-Chinese Bank to investigate and plan a railroad from the Russian-Chinese border by Kiachta to Beijing trough Mongolia and their capital Ulan Bator. The Trans- Mongolian railroad was completed in 1919.

Carl Victor Lagerholm owned a part of the Imperial Hotel in Hong Kong in the 1930's.
