"Hart i la"

Signed C. Krohg. Canvas 113 x 133 cm.

Saleroom notice

Erroneous information in the printed catalogue: states that a stamp was based on the motif in 1967. Should be 1987.

Provenance

Private collection, Sweden (since the 1930's).

Literature

Oscar Thue, "Christian Krohg", 1997, compare "Hardt le", illustrated full page in colour, p. 123 and listed in the catalogue p. 331.

More information

The lot is a later executed replica of the famous "Hardt le"(oil on canvas, 93 x 113 cm, 1882, Det Kongelige Slott, Oslo). Compare also "Hardt le" (oil on canvas, 50 x 60 cm), also from 1882, Nasjonalmuseet for kunst, arkitektur og design, Oslo.

The scene depicts the Maritime pilot Julius Pedersen, Sandösund.

In 1987 a Norwegian stamp was based on the motif.
