A carved chalcedony snuff bottle, Qing dynasty, 19th century.

The stone of brownish tone with mottled tortoiseshell-coloured areas, the well-hollowed bottle of compressed semispherical form, cleverly carved on one side utilizing the dark areas of the stone with a cricket and vase, and the other side of pale grayish tone with a frog climbing up a lotus-leaf. Height 5,8 cm.

Provenance

From the Collection of a Swedish Connoisseur, Stockholm. The collector operated within the field of oriental works of art. Due to his knowledge and sense of quality he was of great help to many of the members in Kinaklubben (The China Club), with members such as the Swedish Crown Prince Gustav Adolf (King Gustav VI Adolf), Emil Hultmark and Carl Kempe.
