Provenance

From the Collection of Greger Aronowitz (1911-1989). A well reknowned Swedish art historian and art dealer, he started to work for Bukowskis in 1938, and was Bukowskis CEO 1953-80.

More information

Artworks of this type began appearing in about 1740. Graphic sources produced by Maria Sibylla Merian towards the end of the 17th century as part of her research into the metamorphosis of moths and butterflies served as the models for these sophisticated artistic creations.
